This Open Source Biodigester model is designedfor simplicity, affordability, and adaptability using locally availablematerials such as plastic drums, PVC pipes, and agricultural waste. It enablesrural households and smallholder farmers to convert organic waste such asmanure, food scraps, and crop residues into clean biogas for cooking, heating, and lighting, while producing a nutrient-rich slurry suitable for use asorganic fertilizer.
Unlike commercialsystems, this design is openly shared and intended for community-basedreplication. The biodigester contributes to circular economy goals bytransforming waste into energy and agricultural input, reducing reliance onfirewood or LPG. Training materials, design guidelines, and case studies areoften shared by NGOs and academic partners to promote adoption. It has beensuccessfully implemented in parts of East Africa, South Asia, and LatinAmerica.
