Solar Drying Tents are low-cost, climate-resilient structures that use passive solar heating to dehydrate fruits, vegetables, spices, and other agricultural goods. Made from transparent or semi-transparent plastic sheeting stretched oversimple frames, these tents capture and retain heat to speed up drying while protecting produce from pests, dust, and rain.
They help smallholder farmers reduce spoilage, increase shelf life, and add value to crops without relying on fuel-based drying methods. Compared to open-air drying, these systems offer faster drying times, better hygiene, and higher-quality results.
Solar drying tents are particularly effective in regions with high humidity or unpredictable weather and are often integrated into women’s cooperatives, school feeding programs, or agribusiness value chains.
