This innovation is a low-cost, solar-powered buoy designed to monitor key water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity in fish farming environments. Built with accessible materials and off-the-shelf sensors, the device transmits real-time data to farmers and technicians via mobile networks or Wi-Fi, enabling timely responses to environmental stressors.
The system supports both smallholder and larger aquaculture operations by reducing the need for manual testing and minimizing fish mortality due to poor water quality. It can be adapted for ponds, cages, or recirculating aquaculture systems.
Developed as part of research-practice partnerships in Latin America and Southeast Asia, the buoy combines low-cost fabrication with locally appropriate digital solutions, enhancing resilience and productivity in rural aquaculture.
